Our History

1980 Rodger Riney founds Scottsdale Securities in Scottsdale, Ariz.

1981 Headquarters are relocated to St. Louis, Mo.

1986 Scottsdale Securities begins to branch out with its third branch office in Dayton, Ohio.

1990 The branch office network grows to 14 offices.

1994 Scottsdale Securities is named on Inc. magazine's 500 Fastest Growing Private Companies in America.

1995 The firm is again among Inc.'s 500 Fastest Growing Private Companies in America.

1996 Scottsdale Securities offers online trading.

1999 The branch network reaches 100 offices.

2000 The company changes its name to Scottrade to reflect the domain name of its Web site.

2001 Scottrade is ranked "Highest in Investor Satisfaction With Online Trading Services" by J.D. Power and Associates.

2002 The firm is recognized for a second and third time by J.D. Power and Associates.

2003 J.D. Power and Associates acknowledges the company for an unprecedented fourth consecutive time. Scottrade's Human Resources Department receives HR Solutions' "Service Excellence Award", and the firm's one-millionth customer account is opened.

2004 Scottrade is again recognized by J.D. Power & Associates and HR Solutions. The company receives the "Greater St. Louis Top 50 Award" in recognition of its participation in the community, and the 200th branch office is opened.

2005 J.D. Power and Associates ranks Scottrade "Highest in Investor Satisfaction With Online Trading Services" for the sixth consecutive time. The Greater St. Louis Top 50 Program acknowledges the firm for a second time.

2006 Rodger Riney rings the closing bell on the NASDAQ on January 18; Barron's magazine awards the company four stars in its annual ranking of online brokerage firms and awards Scottrade the highest ranking for usability and customer support.

2007 Scottrade opens its 300th office, nearing its goal of becoming the online brokerage firm with the largest branch network. For the second consecutive time, Scottrade is named the brokerage firm with the "Highest Customer Loyalty" by Brand Keys.

2007 J.D. Power and Associates ranks Scottrade "Highest in Investor Satisfaction with Online Trading Services".

2008 In January, Scottrade was named one of the 100 Best Companies to Work for in America by FORTUNE magazine. Scottrade hired its 2,000th employee in March and opened its 350th branch office in April.
